Mumbai: A high-level investigation report regarding the tragic death of a woman who fell into a drain in Andheri has been submitted to Municipal Commissioner Bhushan Gagrani. The report concluded that the contractor, L&T, working under the Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation Limited (MMRCL), along with MMRCL itself, is responsible for rectifying the faults at the accident site. It also emphasised the need for vigilance among municipal employees.
In response to the incident, Commissioner Gagrani had ordered the formation of a three-member high-level enquiry committee. The investigation aimed to thoroughly examine the circumstances surrounding the incident and deliver findings within three days.
According to the report, the accident site and its surroundings have been under the control of L&T since 2015. The previous division of the municipal corporation had informed L&T about various discrepancies found during site inspections. MMRCL was notified via letters dated August 24, 2024, and L&T on August 29, 2024, regarding their obligation to rectify any faults during the Defects Liability Period (DLP).
The investigation highlighted that both MMRCL and L&T are accountable for addressing the issues at the accident site. Furthermore, the previous division's officials had taken periodic action related to the matter. However, given that the accident occurred on a major road during a declared red alert, it was crucial for municipal staff to remain vigilant.
