The Mount Vernon College campus went to lockdown after reports of a shooting near the Skagit Valley College Monday afternoon, the college said in a post on X. In a follow-up post, the college said that the shots were fired at the vicinity of the college. However, the college later confirmed that the lockdown has been lifted, but the investigation is still active.

Earlier, the college had instructed all students to not leave their campus residences as it was an emergency situation.
Skagit Valley College had written in an earlier post on X: "Everyone must remain in lockdown in all buildings on Mount Vernon campus. You'll receive an ALL CLEAR message once lifted. It is not safe; stay in lockdown."
