‘mould comes free’ with journalist’s zomato-ordered burger king meal

A journalist has sworn to never buy another Burger King meal after the one he ordered using Zomato came with a “new flavour”: mould. Yaman Dev Sharma, Assistant Producer for The Lallantop, shared his ordeal on X, calling out the fast-food chain for negligence, with pictures of his mouldy burger.

“Ordered from Burger King via Zomato. After finishing the fries, I opened the burger (Veg Whopper), and today I came to know that they have launched a new flavour, where mould comes free with the burger bread," Sharma’s post read.

Both the food delivery service and the burger chain have since responded to the journalist’s allegations, assuring him that they will “investigate” the incident.

“This is very shocking. We are sorry you had to go through this. We will investigate it. In the meantime, a member of our team will definitely call you. For this, please DM us your registered contact number,” Zomato said.

However, according to Sharma, the company’s customer support ended his chat four times, with nothing more than apologies and a reassurance that it will never happen again on each occasion.

Burger King, replying to the post, said: "We never intend to provide such an experience. Can you please DM us your Contact Number, Store Location, Order ID and Email ID so that we can get in touch with you. Rest assured we will investigate this thoroughly."

But, Sharma isn't having any of it. In a follow-up tweet, the journalist announced that he'd never again order from Burger King or Zomato.

He also said the quality of the order shows how much the companies care for their customers, adding that they have "successfully ruined" his experience of ordering in.

It follows a customer's allegations of malpractice against the grocery delivery service Big Basket, which he said sent underweight onions and blocked him when he reported it.
