mirzapur's munna bhaiya was offered to this actor before divyenndu. pankaj tripathi was the reason he could not play it

Munna Bhaiya from Prime Video’s series Mirzapur is one of the most legendary characters ever played on our OTT screens. The way he owned the role, it looked like Divyenndu was born to play the part. However, this Jamtara actor has now revealed that he was offered the role first!

A different Munna Bhaiya?

Before Divyenndun played the role of Munna Bhaiya, it was offered to Jamtara actor Amit Sial. He told Filmygyan, “Mirzapur mein jo Munna ka character hai wo mujhe offer hua tha but obviously mai Pankaj ka beta to lag nahi sakta hun (Munna’s character in Mirzapur was offered to me but obviously I wouldn’t have been convincing in the role of Pankaj Tripathi’s son) but I am very happy that I did what I did. I think that’s a classic character.”

Amit also added that he thinks Divyenndu, who is his friend, played the role very well., “Bohot hi pyaara dost hai aur bohot hi (accha) potray kiya (He is a very sweet friend and portrayed the character very well).”

However, Amit Sial got to be a part of the show, though in a very different role. Sial went on to play the character of Senior Superintendent of Police Ram Sharan Maurya who was a Special Officer assigned to Mirzapur. And as usual, he nailed the role.

Divyenndu reveals why he quit Mirzapur

Although Munna Bhaiya was very loved, Divyenndu left the show after Season 2 and his character was killed off. He spoke to Zoom about what led to the decision, Divyenndu said, "After a point of time you cannot romanticize the fact that you are playing a dark character. It tends to take a toll on you. There is only one way to do it…you have to go deep. And you have to come out of it also.”
