Retired whistleblower Rebekah Jones on Sunday tweeted that Melania Trump has filed for an e-divorce as husband Donald Trump's hush-money sentencing looms. However, the claim is likely false. Jones posted a screenshot of a Newsweek story tweet claiming the same. As the post was going viral on social media, Shayan Sardarizadeh of BBC Verify, noted that the image is digitally-altered.
"This is a fake, digitally-altered screenshot of a Newsweek tweet. You can see the genuine one from December 2019 on the right," Sardarizadeh said on X, platform formerly known as Twitter.

The journalist's reaction came to a tweet by Rebekah Jones. It read: "BREAKING: Melania Trump filed for divorce in Palm Beach* county through online e-file system, time stamped today at 5:12 PM ET." The Florida-based retired whistleblower, however, did not provide any evidence to back her claim.

Questioning her tweet, one person said: "This is weird, Newsweek didn’t tweet that and there’s no news articles about this at all. Everything okay?"
"It's false. I wish it was true though," another one added.

The viral claim comes a day after fired former Trump aide Anthony Scaramucci claimed Melania wants Kamala Harris to win the November election. Appearing on the MediasTouch podcast, he said 'nobody wants [Harris] to win more than me.' He then corrected himself, adding Melania is even keener.
"I judge the hatred of Donald Trump by the Melania standard. My wife hates Trump as much as Melania," Scaramucci said.
