Once upon a time, there was a farmer from Punjab who made a surprising journey from seeking compensation in court to becoming the owner of an entire train. His achievement was so unique that even big industrialists like Mukesh Ambani, Gautam Adani, and Ratan Tata had never accomplished such a feat.
The story begins in 2007 when the railways took some land to build the Ludhiana-Chandigarh railway line. Unfortunately, this land included a piece owned by Sampooran Singh from the village of Katana. Going to the story, you will find that in a unique legal ruling, a Punjab farmer has become the owner of an express train following a court order issued in Ludhiana.
Singh initially received only Rs 42 lakh for his land, while he claimed he should have been paid Rs 1.05 crore. After filing a case in 2012, the court ordered the Railways to pay him the remaining amount and increased the compensation to Rs 50 lakh per acre. However, the Railways did not comply.

In response to the delay, the court has now awarded Singh the Swarna Shatabdi Express, a train that runs daily between New Delhi and Amritsar. Additionally, Singh has been granted ownership of the Ludhiana railway station master’s office.
Sampooran Singh and his lawyer went to Ludhiana railway station with the court order but chose not to disrupt the train's schedule to avoid inconveniencing passengers. Singh’s lawyer, Rakesh Gandhi, mentioned that if the Railways do not pay the compensation by Saturday, the court may consider auctioning the train.
As a result, Sampooran Singh became the only person in India to own a train.
