New Delhi: Today, Indian stock markets experienced a sharp decline, with the Sensex falling by 1,700 points to 82,500 and the Nifty 50 dropping 550 points to 25,250. Only a few stocks managed to stay in the green, while most faced heavy losses.

Top Gainers and Losers

On the BSE Sensex, only two stocks, JSW Steel up 1.57 per cent and Tata Steel up 0.12 per cent, traded in positive territory. Meanwhile, losses were led by Maruti Suzuki India down 4.08 per cent, followed by Asian Paints, Larsen & Toubro, Tata Motors, and Axis Bank.

Similarly, on the Nifty 50, three stocks, including JSW Steel up 1.59 per cent, Tata Steel, and ONGC, registered gains. The biggest losers included BPCL down 5.08 per cent, along with Asian Paints, Larsen & Toubro, Bajaj Finserv, and Maruti Suzuki India.

Sectoral And Broader Market Performance

All sectoral indices were in the red, with the Realty index taking the hardest hit, dropping 4.12 per cent. The Auto, Oil & Gas, Nifty Bank, Financial Services, and Media indices were also down over 2 per cent. Other sectors like FMCG, IT, Consumer Durables, and Healthcare saw declines of 1 per cent to 2 per cent.

The broader markets also struggled, with the BSE MidCap index down 2.36 per cent and the BSE SmallCap index down 1.93 per cent.
