Mariah Carey lost her Patricia Carey, and sister, Alison Carey on the same day over a week ago. The news was confirmed on August 26 through a statement issued by the American singer.
Mariah Carey cut off contact with sister
While it was known that Mariah and Alison shared a sour relationship, the deceased's friend and healthcare proxy, David Baker, told DailyMail.com that she yearned for her sister’s love and care. Revealing that she was in hospice care for the past month, Mariah refused to reach out to her sibling despite being aware of her medical condition. David said, “Alison was hurt by the way she was treated by her mother and Mariah, but she always had mixed feelings about her mother. But I know it was her dying wish if she could’ve at least had a conversation with Mariah.”
In another interview with US Sun, Baker shared, “Alison was unhappy that her ‘baby sister’ had cut off contact with her. She talked about it frequently. She wondered if Mariah or any of her relatives would come to her funeral. I am told that a memorial service is planned for a future date, but nothing now.

He added, "Mariah has never tried to contact Alison, even after she was told a month ago that Alison was dying. A phone call or, better still, a video call would have meant so much to Alison. But it never came. And now Mariah is 'heartbroken' by the loss of her mother and her 'ex' sister. That callous rejection added more hurt to Alison's pain."
Mariah Carey's relationship with sister Alison
In her 2020 memoir, The Meaning of Mariah Carey, the singer highlighted the relationship she shared with her sister. She also alleged her drug addiction. In one of the paragraphs, Mariah wrote, “My sister drugged me with Valium, offered me a pinky nail full of cocaine, inflicted me with third-degree burns, and tried to sell me out to a pimp.”
Announcing the demise of her mother and sister, Mariah said in a statement to People, "My heart is broken that I’ve lost my mother this past weekend. Sadly, in a tragic turn of events, my sister lost her life on the same day. I feel blessed that I was able to spend the last week with my mom before she passed. I appreciate everyone’s love and support and respect for my privacy during this impossible time."
