manipur's ruling mlas lay down strategy: 'mass operation' against militants to begin in 7 days

Manipur's ruling MLAs, in a high-level meeting on Monday, passed a resolution to launch "mass operations" against the militants responsible for the killing of six innocent women and children in Jiribam. These operations are set to begin within seven days, according to the resolution passed at the meeting, which was held at the Chief Minister's Secretariat.

The legislators also called on the Centre to review the imposition of AFSPA under an order dated November 14, with immediate effect. Further, it was resolved that the cases related to the Jiribam killings, the death of another woman who was burnt on November 7, in Jiribam, and the killing of a woman farmer in Saiton, Bishnupur, on November 9, be handed over to the National Investigation Agency (NIA) for a thorough probe.

The ruling MLAs also demanded that the militants responsible for the killings be declared an "unlawful organisation" within seven days. If these resolutions were not implemented within the specified timeline, the NDA legislators warned that they would go to the people to consult them on the future course of action.

The meeting also condemned the violent protests during which public representatives, including ministers and MLAs, were attacked and their properties subjected to by burning and looting.

Terming these acts as "barbaric," the MLAs vowed legal action against the miscreants, and announced the setting up of a High-Powered Committee.

The legislators further stated the urgent need for the Centre and the state to take "all necessary steps" to restore peace and normalcy in Manipur.
