Manchester United have received a major boost as Bruno Fernandes will now be available for the next three Premier League matches. The Red Devils have successfully appealed the red card which was shown to the club captain during the 3-0 loss to Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League.
Referee Chris Kavanagh brandished a straight red card to the Portugues midfielder which appeared to be a debatable decision. TV replay showed Bruno slipped when he made that tackle but even after a consultation with the VAR, the referee stood still with his decision and Bruno left the pitch as United played the remaining match with ten men.
But now the club has confirmed the decision is overturned and the player will get to play in the Premier League from the next match only.
An official statement read, “Bruno Fernandes will be available for Manchester United’s next three games following a successful claim of wrongful dismissal.
“The midfielder was sent off for serious foul play during the Premier League match against Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday, 29 September.
“Fernandes was set to miss our league fixtures against Aston Villa, Brentford and West Ham but will now be available for selection following the successful appeal.”
Bruno kept on insisting that it was never a red card as he revealed even James Maddison told him the same thing.
“Nobody wants to be sent off, it’s not a good feeling.
“I didn’t go with the studs. It’s never a red card. Even James Maddison when he gets up he said it’s not a red card.”
He further added, “If this is a red card we have to look at many other incidents,” Fernandes said. “It is a foul. There is not much contact. If he (the referee) wants to give me a yellow, I agree. I don’t understand why VAR doesn’t call him to the screen.”
