Apple on Friday made its iPhone 16 series available for sale in India. Stores in Mumbai and Delhi reported massive footfalls on the new launch’s eagerly-anticipated opening day.
If you are into discounts, there’s little incentive to camp outside the stores overnight to buy the latest Apple smartphone before everyone else. However, a young man showed up at Select Citywalk, Saket, at 4 am to get a deal on the iPhone.
Tanishq, of Delhi, wasn’t in line to buy the iPhone 16. Instead, as the queuer initially told Digit India, he was there to watch people scramble to get into the store.
Tanishq later revealed that he was actually going to buy the iPhone 15, because its price would eventually become cheaper.
In fact, the buyer has a purely utilitarian approach towards the Apple smartphone, which he said he uses only because it has a “good camera”.
“Otherwise, I think, Google Pixel is better,” he said.
“At they don’t fake promises about AI updates coming in 2025. Why buy a phone based on promises?”
While Tanishq appears to have a fair level of disillusionment when it comes to phones, it’s a different story altogether with some people.
According to ANI, a man named Ujjwal Shah, stood outside the BKC store for about 21 hours, just so he could be the first person to enter it.
“I have been here since 11 AM yesterday and I will be the first one to enter the store today at 8 AM. I am very excited today…The atmosphere in Mumbai for this phone is absolutely new…Last year, I stood in the queue for 17 hours,: he told the news agency.
Countless others camped out overnight to beat the rest of the crowd to the store opening. Yet many reportedly showed up as early as 6:30 AM on Friday to be among the first few thousand iPhone 16 buyers.
The base model of iPhone 16 costs ₹79,990, while the starting price for iPhone 16 Pro is ₹1,29,990. Its flagship version, the Pro Max, is selling for ₹1,49,990
