major it firms ramp up hiring: tcs and infosys plan to recruit thousands of fresh graduates

In a favorable development for the IT sector, college recruiting is expected to increase by 20-25% this fiscal year, driven by rising demand for skills in artificial intelligence (AI), cybersecurity, cloud computing, and data analytics. Industry insiders told The Economic Times that big software services organizations such as Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), Infosys, Wipro, HCLTech, and Tech Mahindra are increasingly interested in hiring talent.

Last year, IT companies reduced hiring to deal with global economic uncertainty and stabilise their workforces after a time of strong recruitment during the pandemic.

At Wipro, for example, the top goal is to onboard Next Gen Associates (NGAs) who have already accepted offers. The company reported onboarding approximately 3,000 NGAs in the first quarter of FY25 and expects an overall intake of 10,000 to 12,000 NGAs this year. Wipro is also devoted to hiring in developing industries such as artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, and cloud technology.

Tech Mahindra intends to hire roughly 5,000 new personnel from engineering campuses, with hiring taking place in stages. Chief People Officer Richard Lobo underlined the importance of cutting-edge talents such as AI and machine learning in their recruitment strategy. Furthermore, the corporation plans to engage 1,000 interns through the Prime Minister Internship Scheme.

Meanwhile, TCS has revealed plans to hire up to 40,000 new grads, while Infosys expects to hire roughly 20,000 on campus. However, both corporations declined to comment further, citing a mandated silence period preceding their quarterly reporting.

In a recent earnings call, TCS Chief HR Officer Milind Lakkad stated that the business onboarded 11,000 trainees in the most recent quarter and is continuing with its National Qualifier Test to strengthen recruitment.

Overall, the combined workforce of TCS, Infosys, Wipro, HCLTech, and Tech Mahindra decreased by 2,034 personnel in the June quarter, despite the fact that TCS, Wipro, and Tech Mahindra recorded net headcount growth.
