major development! ipl teams considering revolutionary step to offer...: report

The IPL 2025 is expected to bring in more excitement and glitz next season. BCCI recently announced the rules for player retention and IPL teams have already started brainstorming ahead of the retention deadline.

In a major development, it has emerged that IPL teams are considering offering multi-team contracts to players which will benefit The Hundred. As per the Telegraph, this move could be implemented in a bid to lure talented players.

Several IPL owners are reportedly interested in investing in The Hundred and churning out multi-team contracts will help them to have a large pool of talented players. For several overseas players, the preference has been the Major League Cricket and Global T20 League which incidentally takes place more or less at the same time.

The likes of Pat Cummins, Travis Head, Glenn Maxwell, Steve Smith, Trent Boult and Kagiso Rabada opted for the MLC this season. IPL team owners already own teams in overseas leagues and the likes of Mumbai Indians and Kolkata Knight Riders also have players who play for their multiple franchises.

IPL sides which will extend their portfolio through The Hundred teams will benefit as they will be allowed to sign players contracted with their respective IPL sides. The Hundred also has failed to offer competitive salaries in comparison to other franchise leagues. Hundred’s top players only earned up to £125,000 which is very less than other competitors.

Shaheen Shah Afridi chose to withdraw from his Welsh Fire contract and decided to join Canada’s Global T20 which offered a higher salary to the Pakistan fast bowler. Earlier Richard Gould, the chief executive of the ECB admitted that The Hundred needed to find a plan to attract top talents from around the world. As quoted by the Telegraph he said, “We need to be able to ensure our best men and women players play and we can attract the best overseas players.”
