Several locals and online reporters posted videos from the scene on social media. "Dd Williamson plant just exploded in my neighborhood in louisville. Hope the workers are ok!" one person tweeted.

"A loud boom was heard throughout Louisville Tuesday afternoon, and sources tell us it was from a large explosion in the Clifton neighborhood," another one added.

While officials have not confirmed casualities, local media outlets reported that multiple people could be trapped and injured.

What Was The Cause Of The Louisville Explosion?

According to the Louisville Metro Government, "There has been a hazardous materials incident at1901Payne St. A shelter in place order has been issued for those in a one mile radius." Other details were not provided. Louisville Fire and Metro Emergency Services have confirmed they are responding to a workplace 'explosion.'

In April 2003, one person was killed at the plant after a vessel failure, according to the U.S. Chemical Safety and Hazard Investigation Board.
