legal battle awaits india? pakistan set to approach cas over bcci's champions trophy 2025 refusal: report

The India-Pakistan tussle over the 2025 Champions Trophy (CT) could be headed towards the courtroom after the Board of Control for Cricket In India (BCCI) informed the International Cricket Council (ICC) that the Indian cricket team will not travel to their neighbouring nation for the mega event.

The status of the tournament has been debated ever since Pakistan were awarded the hosting rights of the competition in 2021. India have not played any cricket in the country since the 2008 Asia Cup owing to strained political ties between the two nations following the 26/11 Mumbai Terror Attacks.

Last year, the 2023 Asia Cup was played in a hybrid model after India refused to trave to Pakistan with Sri Lanka co-hosting the tournament. All matches of the Indian including the final took place in the Island nation.

India Will Not Travel To Pakistan For ICC Champions Trophy 2025, Wants To Play Matches In…: Report

Several reports in the last week have stated that BCCI told the ICC that the Government of India have refused to give the Men in Blue permission to travel to Pakistan for the Champions Trophy.

According to a report by NDTV, Pakistan are considering taking legal action over India and making a case in the Court of Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).

While India remain firm in their stance, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Mohsin Naqvi recently ruled out the possibility of the tournament being played in a hybrid model. Dubai has widely been suggested as the venue for India's matches.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) were set to announce the schedule of the competition on 11th November but that event has been reportedly called.

Have BCCI-PCB Previously Had Any Legal Battles?

In 2018, PCB had filed a case asking for compensation towards the International Cricket Council (ICC) dispute resolution committee (DRC) over India not playing a bilateral series against them in 2014 and 2015. The case was dismissed by the DRC, and PCB had to pay the BCCI USD 2 million in legal costs.
