In a tragic incident, a woman who lost her entire family in the Wayanad landslide, lost her fiance also in an accident in Kalpetta, Wayanad. Shruti, whose mother, father and sister died in the wayanad landslide met with an accident yesterday evening while travelling with her fiance, Jensen. While she is undergoing treatment, her fiancé succumbed to injuries today.

Shruti, Jensen and their relatives met with the accident after visiting the public crematorium in Puthumala for the first time after identifying mother Sabitha's body through a DNA test.

Shruti's mother Sabitha, father Shivanna, younger sister Shreya and maternal grandmother died in the landslide. 9 members of the family, including two brothers of her father, died in the disaster. Shruti was working as an accountant in a private hospital in Kozhikode.

Shruti's father was a mason and her mother worked in a shop. Mother Sabitha was also the former member of the 10th ward of Meppadi panchayat. Her younger sister Shreya was a second year B.Com student at NMSM Govt College, Kalpetta. In the first days of the landslide, the father and sister were identified and the funeral rites were performed. But the mother was identified after the results of the DNA test.

15 sovereigns of gold and 4 lakh rupees, which were kept for Shruti's wedding, were carried away along with their house in the landslide. Shruti and Jensen, who belong to two religious communities have been friends since school and an engagement had taken place. Shruti's wedding, which was supposed to be held this December, was preponed as all of Shruti's close relatives died in the tragedy. Both wanted to have a register marriage. Jensen was seriously injured in an accident in Kalpatta yesterday and was undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Meppadi, and succumbed to his injuries today.

Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said that the news is very painful. "Nothing can compensate for the losses that occur in the face of disasters. What we can now assure is that this state is with you, Shruti. Condolences to Shruti and Jensen's family. May Shruthi be able to overcome challenges and pain," CM wrote.
