kate moss' sister lottie overdoses on ozempic, hospitalized; know the horrific side effects

Supermodel Kate Moss’ sister Lottie has issued a warning to those taking Ozempic after she was rushed to hospital in an emergency due to an overdose. The 26-year-old, also a model, admitted she took the popular weight-loss drug Ozempic for two weeks “a few months ago.”

The English model said at the time, she had not been feeling “happy” about her weight. “I had a friend, and she could get it for me,” Lottie said in a podcast interview. “It was kind of below board… It was from a doctor, but it wasn’t like you go into a doctor’s office, and he prescribes it for you, he takes your blood pressure and takes tests, which is what you need when you go on something like Ozempic,” she added.

Lottie said Ozempic – also known as semaglutide – created for patients with type 2 diabetes, but now being widely used for weight loss – was not meant for those who are not of a very large size. “When I was taking it, the amount that I was taking was actually meant for people who are [220 pounds] and over, and I’m in the [110] range,” she said.

She has now encouraged her fans to not take Ozempic.

What happened to Lottie after taking Ozempic?

According to Lottie, her short stint with the drug – given as an injection under your skin, made her feel nauseous and throw up constantly. "That made me drop nearly 20 pounds,” she said. “I think I started at about [132 pounds], and I went down to [125 pounds] with the first dose, then I went down to like [119 pounds]. It was crazy. I think my lowest was [116 pounds]. In terms of a few weeks, that’s not a healthy weight loss, and that’s not a healthy drop,” Lottie added.

She added that sudden and extreme weight loss put her in bed, making her feel sick and dehydrated. She could not drink or eat anything and had to be rushed to the emergency room after suffering a seizure due to dehydration.

Ozempic suggests taking the drug only with a prescription.

A spokesperson for Ozempic manufacturer Novo Nordisk told Fox News Digital in a statement, “We understand and empathize with the health challenges this patient has faced. While we cannot comment on this particular incident, we care deeply about the safety and well-being of patients who take our medicines and strongly recommend that all patients maintain close contact with their healthcare professional for proper diagnosis, appropriate treatment, ongoing guidance, and careful monitoring.”

How does Ozempic work?

Experts say Ozempic works in several ways to lower blood sugar levels in those with type 2 diabetes and lowers heart-related risks in those with heart disease. It increases the insulin in your body after a meal so that your blood sugar levels will not get too high.

The drug then slows the movement of food through your stomach to prevent a big increase in your blood sugar levels.

Side effects of Ozempic

Like most drugs, Ozempic causes mild or serious side effects, which include:

  • Constipation
  • Diarrhoea
  • Abdominal pain
  • Vomiting and nausea
  • Diabetic retinopathy, which leads to damage to your eyes
  • Hypoglycemia or low blood sugar
  • Gallbladder disease
  • Pancreatitis
  • Risk of thyroid tumours or cancer
