Samai Bisi Bele Bath Recipe

Prepped with simple ingredients, follow these easy steps and enjoy your morning meal.

Ingredients
  • 2 cups mixed veggies (carrot, peas, capsicum, tomatoes, drumstick, beans)
  • 1 cup onion
  • 3/4 cup samai millet
  • 1/4 cup toor dal
  • 1/2 cup coconut
  • 2 1/2 cup water
  • 2 1/2 pinches turmeric powder
  • 2 tbsp ghee
  • 2 tbsp chana dal
  • 2 tbsp sesame oil
  • 2 tbsp coriander seeds
  • 6 red chillies
  • 1 medium potato
  • 1 tsp methi seeds
  • 1 tsp asafoetida
  • 1/2 tsp mustard seeds
  • Small ball of tamarind
  • Handful curry leaves
  • Handful cashews

Step 1: Start by washing and cooking the samai millet. Sprinkle turmeric powder, asafoetida and water to it. Cook in a pressure cooker for about 5-6 whistles.

Step 2: Next, chop the veggies into cubes and extract tamarind water from the soaked tamarind.

Step 3: In a pan, heat oil and roast coriander seeds, methi seeds, chana dal and red chillies until golden brown. Allow the mixture to cool and blitz into a smooth powder. Set aside the freshly ground sambhar masala.

Step 4: In a pressure cooker, drizzle ghee and vegetable oil. Add mustard seeds, small onions and chopped veggies. Saute for a minute and add tamarind water to the veggies.

Step 5: Stir powdered spices along with sambhar powder. Keep stirring and add cooked millet to the mixture.

Step 6: Cook the mixture for a whistle and once the pressure is released automatically, top it with curry leaves, ground sambhar masala and roasted cashew nuts.

Step 7: Mix everything and serve hot with crispy papad and enjoy your delightful morning breakfast.
