Kolkata Rape & Murder Case
On August 9, a postgraduate trainee doctor was raped and murdered while on duty at RG Kar Medical College in Kolkata, leading to nationwide protests by the medical community. This incident has brought the issue of women's safety to the forefront, with doctors and nurses rallying for justice for the deceased, who was found in a half-naked state at the seminar hall.
Following the incident, the Kolkata Police arrested a civic volunteer the next day. Dissatisfied with the Kolkata Police's handling of the case, the Calcutta High Court directed the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to take over the investigation.
The primary suspect in the case, Sanjay Roy, was sent to 14 days of judicial custody and one day of CBI custody. The CBI conducted polygraph tests on seven people connected to the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital case. Those undergoing the lie detection tests include the main accused, former principal Sandeep Ghosh, four doctors, and one other individual.
