Jasprit Bumrah was at his very best as he bagged three wickets on Day 4 of the second Test between India and Bangladesh at the Green park Stadium in Kanpur. India are after a win in the second Test and they needed quick wickets to keep the hopes alive. Only 35 overs were possible on Day 1 of the Test while Day 2 and 3 were completely washed out. With just over 180 overs remaining, the onus was on India to push for a result. Bumrah gave India an early breakthrough in the form of Mushfiqur Rahim and then returned after Lunch to take the wickets of Mehidy Hasan and Taijul Islam.
The three wickets helped Bumrah achieve a special feat in international cricket. Bumrah became the first bowler in the world to take 50 international wickets in 2024.

Meanwhile, Jasprit Bumrah also surpassed James Anderson to become the seventh leading wicket-taker in the World Test Championship (WTC). Bumrah now has 118 wickts in 28 Test matches in the WTC. Nathan Lyon sits at the top of the table with 187 wickets while R Ashwin is second with 182 wickets.
Bumrah Keeps India's Hopes Alive
The three wickers by Bumrah helped India bowl out Bangladesh for 233 in the first innings. With nearly four sessions to go in the Test match, India woud look to bat positively and take a handy lead by the end of Day 4. They can bat on the first session on Day 5 before asking Bangladesh to bat again. Given the class in India’s bowling, even 50 overs could be enough for the Rohit Sharma-led side to win the Test. India need a win to boost hopes of WTC final. A draw would mean the team would have to win five out of the remaining eight Tests to qualify on their own.
