jason gillespie to coach pakistan on south africa tour, confirms pcb amidst sacking rumours

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) refuted the media reports that claimed the board is set to sack red-ball coach Jason Gillespie, with Aqib Javed taking over as all-format coach. The board confirmed that Gillespie will continue to coach Pakistan on the South Africa tour. Gillespie was named the interim all-format head coach after white-ball coach Gary Kirsten stepped down. PCB later confirmed that Jason Gillespie would coach Pakistan on the Australia tour for the ODI and T20I series. Gillespie led Pakistan to a win in the ODI series but the team suffered a defeat in the T20Is.

Taking to X (formerly Twitter), the official handle of PCB wrote, “PCB strongly refutes the story. As announced previously, Jason Gillespie will continue to coach the Pakistan side for the two red-ball matches against South Africa.”

Earlier, reports in the media claimed that PCB is set to sack Gillespie as Test coach. It was reported that PCB wanted Gillespie to serve as all-format head coach without the change in the current contract which Gillespie denied as there was no extra pay.

Meanwhile, the PCB did not confirm if Gillespie would continue as white-ball coach for the Zimbabwe and South Africa tour. There is a possibility that PCB may keep Gillespie as Test coach and hand over the white-ball duties to Aqib Javed.

Under Gillespie, Pakistan suffered a 2-0 defeat to Bangladesh before losing the first Test against England. The team, however, bounced back and defeated England in the following two Tests to win the series 2-1.
