Rajasthan Royals (RR) made a mega announcement on September 6 and appointed Rahul Dravid as their head coach. The Indian legend has previously worked with RR in IPL 2014 and 2015. Nine years after being away from the franchise, The Wall of Indian Cricket made his return to the Rajasthan-based team.
Dravid is the second marquee name to join RR. Kumar Sangakkara has been working as RR's director of cricket since IPL 2021. Recently, there were reports that Sangakkara could leave RR and join Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) as their mentor. Will the Sri Lankan legend leave RR and replace Gautam Gambhir as KKR's mentor?
RR have confirmed that Sangakkara will stay at the franchise and will work with Dravid. In their release, the inaugural IPL Champions mentioned that the two legends will work to implement the franchise's overall cricketing strategy.

RR played in the final of IPL 2022, where they lost to Gujarat Titans. They haven't won the IPL title since 2008. Dravid will have his task cut out as RR's head coach.
He coached India to their second title win in the 2024 T20 World Cup and will aim to emulate his success with RR. Dravid is also the former captain of RR. He joined the franchise in the IPL 2011 mega-auction and retired from competitive cricket after playing the 2013 Champions League final.
