The BCCI recently met the owners of the IPL franchises to discuss the road ahead. Even though some of the franchises were against the mega-auction before IPL 2025, the board is likely to stage it. The franchises will only be able to retain 4 to 6 players. The Right to Match (RTM) card could make its return at the mega-auction.
Before the BCCI's announcement, a claim is viral on social media. As per the claim, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) have offered captaincy to Suryakumar Yadav before IPL 2025. Suryakumar has been with Mumbai Indians (MI) since 2018 and KKR are ready to bring him in via trade.

Even if KKR decide to remove Shreyas Iyer and appoint a new captain, it won't be possible for them to sign Suryakumar Yadav before the IPL 2025 mega-auction. There is no trading window before a mega-auction.
Suryakumar will have to leave MI and enter the mega-auction even if there is an offer from KKR. There are no guarantees in an auction and almost every team would be eager to sign SKY if he is available.
KKR have been part of IPL for 17 years and they know that the can't take the risk of releasing their IPL-winning captain in the hope of signing a new captain in the auction.

This doesn't mean that Suryakumar can't join KKR. He can make his return to KKR after 8 years if the reigning IPL Champions make the highest bid for him. But there are no guarantees in an auction.
There will be a trading window before IPL 2026 and KKR can trade in Suryakumar from MI or whichever team he plays for in IPL 2025. He is the present T20I captain of Team India and will be in high demand should he decide to enter the IPL 2025 auction.
