Mumbai Indians (MI) made a huge call before IPL 2024 by removing Rohit Sharma from captaincy. They brought back Hardik Pandya from Gujarat Titans (GT) via trade and named him the new captain. MI made the announcement just a month after Rohit captained Team India to the final of the 2023 ODI World Cup.
The fans were so upset with MI that they booed Hardik during the season. A month after IPL, Rohit captained Team India to a title win in the 2024 T20 World Cup and he would want captaincy in IPL too.
There has been no official word from Rohit or MI regarding his future but there are rumours that he is joining Kavya Maran's Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). Is Rohit actually joining SRH and leaving SRH?
There is no news on it and the rumours of Rohit moving to SRH are untrue. He can leave MI but there is no update on it. Even if Rohit leaves MI, he cannot join SRH or any other team. Rohit will have to enter the IPL 2025 mega-auction and many teams would be eager to buy him.
Rohit Sharma's career with Mumbai Indians
Rohit Sharma joined Mumbai Indians in the IPL 2011 mega-auction. He took over the captaincy during the IPL 2013 season and led them to a title win in his maiden season as the captain. Rohit emulated his success in 2015, 2017, 2019 and 2020. MI have won five IPL titles so far, all under Rohit.
Who captained SRH in IPL 2024?
Pat Cummins joined SRH in the IPL 2024 mini-auction for Rs 20.50 crore and took over the captaincy. Cummins excelled on the captaincy front and captained SRH to their first IPL final since 2016.
The Orange Army suffered a defeat against Shreyas Iyer's Kolkata Knight Riders in a one-sided final. SRH might retain Cummins if he doesn't pull out of IPL 2025.
