IPL 2025 Player Retention Live Updates: The IPL 2025 mega auction is expected to take place in November, and the BCCI is expected to make a formal announcement of the retention rules very soon. All ten IPL teams will be waiting to learn how many players they can retain ahead of the mega auction and if there will be any Right to Match (RTM) cards available.
During the meeting between IPL owners and BCCI in Mumbai, the franchises had urged the apex board to allow them to retain 6-7 players so that the core of each side remains intact. IPL teams invest heavily in their players and thus they don't want the reset button to be pressed every three years. In the past IPL cycle, the mega auction was held every four years, in 2018 and in 2022.
With the IPL 2025 mega auction, it remains to be seen how many players BCCI will allow each team to retain, and what will be the rules for the foreign players. In the IPL 2022 mega auction, every side was allowed to retain four players, but not more than two overseas players could be retained.
Teams like Mumbai Indians, Chennai Super Kings, and Kolkata Knight Riders would want continuity to have their star names stay put, whereas other teams would be happy with the slate being wiped clean. Follow here for live updates of the IPL 2025 retention rules, likely to be announced very soon by BCCI.
