how to turn leftover roti into ‘weight-loss maggi’, according to a dietician

There are many ways to make a palatable dish out of leftover roti from last night, but none quite like the ‘weight-loss Maggi’. According to Mehakdeep Singh, known online as dietician Mac Singh, you can turn your humble flatbread into a nutritious meal in just two minutes, the promised cooking time for Maggi instant noodles.

"Maggi, now healthier! Turn yesterday's roti into a unique Roti Maggi that also supports your weight loss goals. Fewer calories, more flavour!," Singh captioned his Instagram cooking-tutorial video.

In the reel, the dietician cuts up roti into strands, which he then stir-fries in a pot.

Ingredients:

1 onion

1 green chilli

1 tomato puree

1 tsp salt

1 tsp Kitchen King masala

1 tsp Turmeric

1 tsp red-chilli powder

This “250 kcal per serve” recipe is easy, quick and “best” for weight loss, Singh said. For people looking to get more nutrition out of Roti Maggi, the dietician recommends adding vegetables to the mix.

Any kind of wheat flour available at home, multigrain or not, is good enough to try out Singh’s innovative roti.

Unlike the negative reception that many new recipes, particularly fusion food, get, Singh’s weight-loss Maggi was met with little resistance from his followers.

Commenting on the video, one said they “will definitely try this”.

“We’ve been eating leftover roti like this since childhood,” wrote another.

“Wow, great! I also cooked like this but somewhat different,” read a third comment.

Singh rose to fame in 2022 when his 55-kg weight loss made headlines. He went from weighing 120 kg to 65 in about 12 months.

Long before that, the dietician co-founded Fitelo, an online platform for weight loss and disease management consultations.

Singh, who has previously worked with Manipal Hospital, Bengaluru, says his app has “India’s biggest weightloss Experts”, over 200 of them.
