With the festival season just around the corner, many travellers are preparing to book their train tickets in advance through the IRCTC app. If you're excited about your upcoming journeys but unsure about the booking process, you're in the right place! we’ll walk you through everything you need to know for a smooth and hassle-free travel experience. Here is the step-step process-
Ticket Cancellation: Find out the procedures for cancelling your ticket when plans change, including important timelines and conditions to keep in mind.
Refunds After Cancellation: Discover how to claim your refund after a ticket cancellation, including what to expect and how long it typically takes. Now, let's have a look at the process.
Process:
First, download the IRCTC app, which is available on both the Apple Store and Play Store. If you’re a first-time user, sign up; if you’ve already done that, log in using the code you set during signup. After filling in the captcha, tap on login, and you’ll reach the next interface.
On this interface, select the train option. In the top-left corner, you’ll see the ‘Book Ticket’ option. After that, you’ll come to the train selection page. First, choose your departure location, then your destination. Next, select the class and quota.
Then, select your departure date; I’ve chosen October 21. There will be five categories displayed on the very next page. If applicable, you can select options like ‘Train with available berth’ if you need a berth seat. Then click on ‘Search Trains’ to see the available options.
You can explore all the options and then choose the train that fits your criteria. I’ve selected 3rd AC here, and after refreshing, you’ll see available seats. In my case, I see a waiting list, but you can also check for available seats.
Next, select from your chosen time slots, and a confirmation pop-up will appear. Tap ‘Confirm,’ then ‘Ok.’
Now, the next interface will show all your ticket details. Since this isn’t my first time, you can select existing passenger details or add new passenger details. You can add more than one passenger by selecting ‘Add New.’
One important note: if you’re traveling with an infant, you can also add their details. You can also select berth preferences.
There’s an option for the passenger’s mobile number where you can enter details. Another option is ‘Consider for auto-upgradation’ in case you want to apply for an upgrade if a seat becomes available. There’s also an option for ‘Travel Insurance opted’; I selected ‘No.’
After that, you’ll see the payment method. Fill in the captcha, and the amount will be displayed. Tap ‘Proceed to Pay.’ If your ticket is on the waiting list, you’ll see a long message on the screen; tap ‘Yes’ to proceed. You’ll be directed to several options; I chose ‘Autopay.’
Then, tap ‘Proceed to Pay.’ You’ll see three options; I selected the UPI (OTM) option. After making the payment, your ticket is booked!
Your ticket will be registered, and then the ‘Terms and Conditions’ will appear. If you want to see the details between trains, tap ‘Accept.’ After confirming your choice, tap ‘Yes.’
If you want to check the ticket details, go to the ‘My Bookings’ option in the app. Tap on your ticket, go to the top right corner, and you’ll find the ‘Cancel Ticket’ option if you need to cancel. If your waiting list ticket gets confirmed, you’ll receive a notification.
That’s all you need to do! Try the process.
