how an argument over sharing pizza led to a woman being shot at in delhi

New Delhi: In a shocking incident in northeast Delhi’s Welcome area, a woman named Saadma was shot at by her sister-in-law’s brother after a heated argument over sharing pizzas, police said on Thursday. The incident, which took place on Wednesday night, led to the arrest of four individuals.

The police were alerted when Seelampur police station received information from GTB Hospital that Saadma had been admitted with a gunshot wound."Initial investigation revealed that the victim's brother-in-law, Zeeshan, brought pizzas for the entire family on Wednesday. He gave them to everyone in the family, including Saadma, the wife of his younger brother Javed," the DCP said. Zeeshan's wife Saadiya, who had a dispute with Saadma, got upset over her husband sharing food with her sister-in-law, and this led to a fight between the three, the officer said.

This minor argument escalated into a violent confrontation. Later that evening, Saadiya called her four brothers—Muntahir, Tafseer, Shahzad, and Gulrej—who arrived at the house and confronted the family. During the argument, Muntahir fired a shot and the bullet hit Saadma. Then, she was rushed to GTB Hospital, where she is currently stable and receiving treatment.

Following the incident, the police arrested Muntahir, Tafseer, Shahzad, and Gulrej, seizing a pistol, four live cartridges, and one empty shell. "We are probing the matter from all angles. We are recording statements of the family members. Further investigation is underway," the officer said.

A family member of the victim described the incident, stating that Zeeshan was distributing food when Saadiya reportedly objected.

"A fight erupted between Zeeshan, Saadiya, and Saadma. Saadiya started smashing Saadma's head against the wall. She then left from there and called in her brothers, who came from Ghaziabad. Her brothers abused all the family members, and one of them shot Saadma," he said.

According to the victim's relative, upon hearing the gunshot, neighbours quickly intervened, locking Saadiya's brothers in a room until the police arrived.

One of the accused attempted to flee and fired a shot in the air, but was overpowered by local residents.

Further investigation is ongoing.
