Chennai: A notorious history sheeter, Kakathopu Balaji, was killed in a police encounter early Wednesday morning in the Pulianthope area of the city. Balaji, who had over 50 criminal cases against him, including five murders and 15 attempted murders, had been absconding for an extended period.
Acting on intelligence, Chennai police officers attempted to apprehend Balaji at his hideout. When he resisted arrest and tried to flee, police were forced to open fire, resulting in his death. His body was subsequently taken to Stanley hospital for a post-mortem.
Balaji had a long criminal record and had been arrested on numerous occasions, including 12 times under the Goondas Act. Despite his previous arrests, he continued to engage in criminal activities, posing a significant threat to public safety.
The body of the history sheeter Balaji has been shifted to Royapettah government hospital.
