While India are in the middle of a heated contest against New Zealand and will play two must-win clashes over the next few days in Pune and Mumbai, respectively, which they need to win in order to maintain their incredible record of winning 17 Test series in a row and also keep themselves safe in contention to reach the 2025 World Test Championship (WTC); one eye of the Indian cricket fraternity is on the Australia tour where the team will play a blockbuster series which include five Test matches.

According to a report by the Press Trust of India, the selectors are set to announce the squad on 28th October, which is the day the second Test against New Zealand will end in Pune. The report further states that there could be a surprise selection as Cheteshwar Pujara could make a comeback to the team.

It is reported that if the Ajit Agarkar-led selection committee decides to fall back on experience, Pujara could earn a recall to the team.

Pujara last played for India in the 2023 World Test Championship (WTC) final against Australia. He was the star of India's victory in the Border Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) on Australian soil in both 2018-19 and 2020-21.

Overall, the 103-Test match veteran has played 11 Test matches in Australia and scored 993 runs at an average of 47.28 with three centuries.

The same report also suggests that Nitish Kumar Reddy could be part of the squad to tour Australia despite being uncapped in Test cricket. The pace-bowling all-rounder will not play the T20I series against South Africa after being named in the India A Squad for the tour of Australia.
