grap 4 curbs in delhi amid 'severe+' aqi | what's allowed, what's not

Anti-pollution restrictions under GRAP-IV come into effect in Delhi starting today as the air quality in the national capital plummets to "severe+" for the first time this season. The restrictions were announced by the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM), which also asked the Delhi government to explore the possibility of implementing the "odd and even" scheme for vehicles plying on the road, and switching classes 6-9 to online mode.

Apart from entry of trucks and running of BS-IV vehicles on roads, many other restrictions will be imposed in the city under GRAP-IV. Here are all your questions answered:

Will Employees Work From Home?

Althouth the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) has not made any announcement on encouraging employees to work from home, it has suggested the Delhi government to introduce 50 per cent attendance for staff in government, municipal and private offices. Rest of the staff, it said, can work from home. It has also requested the Centre to allow central government employees to work from home.

Will Classes Go Online?

For now, students of Classes 10 and 12 will continue to attend physical classes as per normal timings. The rest – from nursery up to Class 11 (except 10th Class) will move to online mode from today in view of the increasing pollution levels in the capital.

Notably, under the GRAP III measures, online classes are being held for students up to Class 5. The CAQM has also recommended the closure of colleges as well.

Which Vehicles Are Banned?

All BS-IV and diesel-operated Medium Goods Vehicles (MGVs) and Heavy Goods Vehicles (HGVs) have been banned on Delhi roads under the GRAP-IV measures.

Under the stricter GRAP IV measure, trucks coming from other states won't be allowed to enter Delhi, except for CNG and electric trucks, and trucks carrying essential commodities. Light Commercial Vehicles, which are registered outside Delhi are also banned from entering Delhi.

Is Construction Work Allowed In Delhi

All construction-related activities in the capital region, including construction of highways, roads and pipelines, has been banned under the GRAP IV measures.
