The Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) stage-3 has been implemented to curb air pollution in the National Capital Region (NCR). Apart from a range of other restrictions (from construction to mining), this plan includes restrictions on certain vehicles to mitigate the impact on air quality.
Vehicle Restrictions:
- Petrol and Diesel Vehicles: BS-III petrol and BS-IV diesel light motor vehicles are restricted in Delhi and its neighboring districts of Gurugram, Faridabad, Ghaziabad, and Gautam Budh Nagar.
- Diesel Medium Goods Vehicles: Delhi-registered diesel-powered medium goods vehicles meeting BS-III or lower standards are also restricted, except for those transporting essential goods or providing essential services.
- Inter-state Buses: Only electric, CNG, or BS-VI diesel-powered inter-state buses from NCR regions are allowed to enter Delhi. This restriction does not apply to All India Tourist Permit buses and tempo travelers.
Impact of Winter and Air Pollution:
The onset of winter has exacerbated air pollution levels in Delhi. The Central Pollution Control Board reported an average Air Quality Index (AQI) of 352 on Monday, indicating a severe pollution level. This persistent high pollution poses significant health risks for Delhi residents.
