Thane: A gas leak was reported at a chemical factory in Maharashtra’s Morivali MIDC, located in Thane district’s Ambarnath. The gas leak triggered alarm across the city. The incident has led to the dispersal of chemical fumes throughout the area, creating an atmosphere of fear among residents.

Emergency response teams are on-site, working to identify the nature of the gas and the cause of the leak. Fire Brigade teams are on the spot. While the gas leak has severely impacted visibility and caused discomfort such as itchy eyes and throat irritation, there have been no reports of injuries or fatalities so far.
Residents have reported a marked decrease in visibility, contributing to heightened anxiety in the community. Authorities are currently focused on containing the situation and assessing potential risks.
Bhopal Gas Tragedy
The incident has drawn comparisons to the Bhopal Gas Tragedy of 1984, a catastrophic event where a methyl isocyanate gas leak from the Union Carbide factory resulted in over 3,000 deaths and affected more than 1.00,000 people.
