Pakistan cricket was rocked by a massive controversy after limited-overs coach Gary Kirsten stepped down just a few months after his appointment. Kirsten was reportedly upset with PCB's decision to keep the coaches away from the selection matters. The PCB accepted Kirsten's resignation and announced that Jason Gillespie would coach the team on the white-ball tour to Australia.
Former Pakistan cricketer Basit Ali wasn't pleased with the development and slammed PCB chief Mohsin Naqvi, saying Kirsten was removed as he raised his voice against something that wasn't right.
"Mohsin Naqvi has come with a lot of power. The coaches, selectors and managers are being removed. Earlier, the chairman used to be changed from time to time. Now, whoever raises their voice will be sidelined," Basit said on his YouTube channel.

Gary Kirsten Steps Down As Pakistan White-Ball Coach After Rift With PCB
Meanwhile, there are a few theories circulating in the media about the reason for the possible rift between the PCB and Kirsten. As per reports, Kirsten wanted Babar Azam to play the Zimbabwe series as he felt the pitches in Zimbabwe are very similar to South Africa, however, PCB didn't pay any heed. Similarly, a few reports claimed that Kirsten did not want Mohammad Rizwan as Pakistan's white-ball captain. Ali said Kirsten wanted a different captain and have full authority over the team, however, that was never going to be the case with PCB.
"The story started when Mohammad Rizwan was named Pakistan's new white-ball captain. Kirsten wanted a different captain and demanded another player in the team. Coincidently, both of them are not in the team. He was thinking that maybe he could have full authority. However, he doesn't know that in Pakistan, even the PCB chairman can get changed overnight," he added.
