G-20 Meet In Brazil

Under its presidency of the G-20, Brazil has started a new campaign against hunger and poverty. Brazil was preparing for this since September last year. According to Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, no country can fight hunger and poverty alone; both developed and developing countries have to come together for this.

According to the State of Food Security and Nutrition in the World organization, by 2023, 733,000,000 people will remain hungry all over the world, which means that one out of every 11 people in the world will remain hungry.

Brazil claims that the hunger index of their country was 32.18 in 2021, which has decreased to 18.4 percent by 2023. Brazil says that no one in their country will sleep hungry by 2026.The draft of the Global Coalition against Hunger and Poverty was passed by member and non-member countries at a meeting held in Rio de Janeiro in July 2024. Brazil has achieved considerable success in its campaign so far; Germany, Norway, Paraguay, Antigua and Barbuda have become members of the alliance.

The world's largest, powerful and well-known financial institutions and banks, including the IMF, World Bank and major banks in Asia, Latin America and the Caribbean, have come forward to help. The World Food Program of the United Nations has been working with Brazil since the beginning for this campaign.

Its headquarters will be in Brazil's capital Brasília, Thailand's capital Bangkok and Ethiopia's capital Addis Ababa. 50 action plans have been kept in the draft of the alliance. The goal is to ensure that fewer people remain hungry in the world by 2030.
