A woman sustained serious injuries after being stabbed outside the Friendship Heights Metro station in Chevy Chase, Maryland, on Monday morning. The incident happened close to the intersection of Wisconsin and Western avenues, just before 9:30 a.m. Shortly after the incident, police detained the culprit.
Montgomery County police say the victim was assaulted while seated on a bench at the station. Officers seized the spot for investigation and roped off the area after the attack with yellow police tape. While commuters waited for their buses, law enforcement officers ringed the bench beside the bus port.
Because the station is close to the Maryland–D.C. border, authorities said that the suspect ran toward Washington, D.C. following the stabbing. But the person was swiftly taken into custody by the officers at Chevy Chase Circle. The suspect had a knife on him, and close to the scene of the arrest, cops could be seen looking through an olive-green rucksack.
Responding quickly, the sufferer received emergency care from the medics before being taken to a local hospital. Police acknowledged that the woman had suffered significant injuries from the stabbing, but they did not reveal the precise location of the wounds.
It's still unclear how the culprit and the victim are related. Regarding whether the two knew one another, the police have not yet given any information. Authorities are currently investigating the attack's motivation and trying to ascertain what exactly led up to the stabbing.
Due to the disruption of regular operations at the Metro station caused by the inquiry, commuters in the neighborhood saw a substantial police presence while traveling.
There are now worries about the safety of local public transit users in light of this stabbing event. The Friendship Heights Metro station is a busy place located near the Maryland–D.C. boundary.
