Former Mumbai Indians (MI) opener Parthiv Patel left everyone shocked with his celebration during the last league stage game of IPL 2015. Instead of raising his bat towards his teammates, Patel showed his bat to the Sunrisers Hyderabad's (SRH) dressing room. MI's coaches were surprised and asked Patel the reason behind it after the game.
Speaking to the 2 Sloggers YouTube channel, the veteran player revealed the reason behind this act and shared an interesting story. As per Patel, he was told by SRH's former coach Tom Moody that he cannot play T20s.
The wicketkeeper-batsman finished as SRH's second-highest run-scorer in IPL 2013 but the franchise didn't make even one bid for him in the IPL 2014 mega-auction. After spending one year with Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), Patel moved to MI and had a three-year stint with them.
Patel won two IPL titles with MI – in 2015 and 2017. The Rohit Sharma-led side defeated Chennai Super Kings in the IPL 2015 final to lift the trophy for the second time. In 2017, MI defeated Rising Pune Supergiant in the final.
MI tried to re-sign Patel in the IPL 2018 mega-auction but missed out. He once again joined RCB and had a three-year stint with them. Patel returned to MI as their scout for a couple of seasons.
