Ghaziabad: A 10-year-old boy was allegedly beaten to death by his father and stepmother for stealing Rs 500 in Tyori Biswa village, Ghaziabad on Saturday. The couple suspected the boy of stealing Rs 500 from their home and severely beat him with a blowpipe, causing fatal injuries.
According to a TOI report, the boy's grandmother, who informed the police, said that the boy collapsed on the spot. She also alleged that the couple, identified as Naushad and Razia, would often physically assault the child over minor complaints.
Gyan Prakash Rai, ACP Modinagar, stated that the Bhojpur police team reached the village around 9 AM after the grandmother's alert. They took the boy to a nearby hospital, but he succumbed to his injuries and was declared dead on arrival, as reported by TOI.
The police found Razia hunched over the body and arrested her on the spot. Naushad, who had fled before the police arrived, was caught about an hour later within the village. The couple has been charged under Section 103 (1) (Murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
The weapon used was a blowpipe, a commonly used tube-like tool in rural areas to stoke fire in stoves.
Police stated that Naushad runs a tea stall in the village, and Razia is his second wife. Naushad's first wife, the boy's biological mother, left them nine years ago. The couple also has a daughter, according to the TOI report.
