"There were two to three workers installing LED sign boards at the temple. It is when the priest noticed smoke coming out of the false ceiling. He rushed to seek assistance from locals who helped him in trying to extinguish the fire using a fire extinguisher and water. However, it was of no help as the flames quickly spread due to the presence of highly flammable materials inside the temple," said a local resident., quoted by the Free Press Journal.
"The fire was swiftly brought under control, helped by the temple's open layout and three easily accessible doors. According to the priest, the temple was closed in the afternoon, so no devotees were present at the time. The workers evacuated promptly after the priest raised the alarm. Initial findings point to a short circuit as the likely cause, but the exact reason will be confirmed after further investigation," said Dinesh Chaudhary, station officer at the Chembur fire station, it added.
