In Hyderabad, an under-construction building was recently demolished as part of an intensified crackdown on illegal constructions. The Hyderabad Disaster Response and Assets Monitoring and Protection Agency (HYDRA), led by IPS officer AV Ranganath, has been targeting illegal buildings around the city to reclaim encroached land from water bodies.
On Sunday, HYDRA demolished several illegal structures, including apartments in Madhapur, which were built within the Full Tank Level (FTL) of Sunnam Cheruvu Lake. The agency also tore down villas in Mallampet, located in Dundigal municipality, on the outskirts of Hyderabad.
Since the campaign began, HYDRA has reclaimed 43 acres of land that was encroached upon by politicians, VIPs, and real estate developers. Last month, 4.9 acres of land at Thummidikunta Lake in Madhapur was reclaimed by demolishing the N-Convention building owned by actor Nagarjuna.
On August 18, authorities reclaimed 15 acres of land from Gandipet Lake by demolishing structures owned by several prominent figures. These included Pallam Anand, the brother of former Union minister and Congress leader Pallam Raju; G.V. Bhasker Rao, the owner of Kaveri Seeds and former minister of Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam; BJP leader Sunil Reddy; and the wife of Srinivas, owner of the Pro Kabaddi league.
