A fire occurred on Sunday at a factory owned by Chinese battery giant CATL, a major supplier to electric vehicle manufacturers such as Tesla. Despite the incident, CATL has assured that the impact on its overall operations will be minimal.
The fire broke out at the plant located in Ningde, a coastal city in Fujian province. No injuries or casualties were reported, and emergency services promptly responded to contain the blaze and evacuate personnel from the 15,000 square meter facility.
While the specific products manufactured at the plant were not immediately disclosed, CATL confirmed that the fire, which has now been extinguished, will have a negligible effect on its production capacity.
Videos shared on social media showed flames engulfing parts of a large white building and thick smoke rising into the air. However, the authenticity of these images could not be independently verified.
CATL, established in 2011, is a leading global supplier of electric vehicle batteries, accounting for over a third of the worldwide market. Its customers include prominent automakers like Mercedes-Benz, BMW, Volkswagen, Toyota, Honda, and Hyundai.
