Whiskey is India’s go-to spirit for many reasons. People from all walks of life can come together over this amber spirit to share their love for its refined flavours and unique characteristics. Among its many fans is Bollywood superstar Sanjay Dutt who has recently hopped on board with The Glenwalk Scotch Whisky as a co-owner.
Celebrity-led alcohol brands are all the rage worldwide these days with actors and musicians all following their passion in breweries and distilleries. The Glenwalk Scotch Whisky from the highlands of Scotland is a blend of fine malt and grain Scotch whiskies, matured in oak casks for a smooth drink with notes of fruit and spices. The whiskey is winning hearts (and awards) and has been rapidly expanding nationwide – in collaboration with Cartel Bros, spearheaded by co-founders Mokksh Sani, Jitin Merani, Rohan Nihalani, Manish Sani, and Neeraj Singh and is quickly finding an audience across India for its exceptional flavours.
Recently they also launched their own zero-calorie Ginger Ale to add just the right amount of zing to your cocktails. On that occasion, Times Now caught up with Sanjay Dutt to learn more about how he likes his drink and shares some top tips and recipes.
In your opinion, what's the best chakna/bar snack?
A good plate of chicken tikka. It's got that perfect blend of spice and tender meat. It's the ideal companion to a cold drink, and it never disappoints.
What is one dish you could eat at any time of the day?
Bombay Sandwich.
This classic Mumbai snack embodies the hustle of the city. It features layers of fresh vegetables such as cucumber, tomato, and boiled potatoes, all seasoned with a mix of spices and chutneys. The sandwich is often assembled between slices of soft white bread, spread with green chutney and tamarind chutney, and sometimes includes a layer of spicy masala. It's an all-in-one feast with no frills, just good flavours.
What is your favourite hangover remedy?
Limbu Pani
What's your favourite bar in Bombay and your standard order there?
I've been to many places, but Mansionz by Living Liquidz is one of my favourite bars. The ambience is top-notch, and they've got a great selection of drinks. It's one of those places where you can relax and enjoy a good time. My usual there? A classic whisky on the rocks, of course. It's a timeless combination.
What makes Glenwalk ginger ale perfect to pair with whisky?
Glenwalk’s new zero-calorie ginger ale is a revelation. It’s got this perfect balance of sweetness and spice that really complements the bold flavours of whisky. The ginger adds a little kick that wakes up your taste buds, while the sweetness softens the drink without overpowering it. It's the perfect sidekick for whisky.
You already have the Sanju Baba dish named after you, if there was a 'Sanjay Dutt' cocktail, what would be in it?
A Sanjay Dutt cocktail would have to be bold, strong, and unforgettable. Imagine a mix of smoky whisky, a touch of spicy ginger, and maybe a hint of sweetness from some exotic fruit. It would be a drink that packs a punch, just like me.
