Kathua: An encounter broke out in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kathua district on Sunday evening. Security forces launched a joint operation in Koag village of the district after receiving intelligence inputs about the presence of terrorists in the area. A police constable was killed in action during the gunfight. Meanwhile, an assistant sub-inspector and DSP were also injured.

Contact has reportedly been established with the terrorists. A few rounds have been fired from both sides. The entire area has been cordoned off. Five Jaish-e-MOhammed terrorists are believed to be trapped.

More details are still awaited.

It is the second encounter in the union territory in 24 hours. Earlier on Sunday, two terrorists were killed and five security personnel, including a J&K Police official, were injured in an encounter that broke out between security forces and the terrorists in J&K's Kulgam district. The gunfight erupted on Saturday.

Officials said the encounter between the security forces and the terrorists was taking place in the Adigam area of Kulgam.

"The identity of the dead terrorists is being ascertained as the firing exchanges are still continuing in the area," an official said. Four soldiers and a senior police officer were injured in the encounter.
