Hundreds of Americans announced that they are leaving Elon Musk-led X, platform formerly known as Twitter, after Donald Trump's election win on November 5. Celebrities including Jamie Lee Curtis, Elton John, Mia Farrow, Whoopi Goldberg and news anchor Don Lemon announced their exit. British newspaper The Guardian and Spain’s La Vanguardia also left the micro-blogging website.
"The US presidential election campaign served only to underline what we have considered for a long time: that X is a toxic media platform and that its owner, Elon Musk, has been able to use its influence to shape political discourse," The Guardian explained its decision in an editorial piece. The publication further added that X had a surge in 'far-right conspiracy theories and racism' and the 'site's coverage of the US presidential election had crystallised its decision'.

Many of these celebrities joined X's direct competitor Bluesky. Rapper Lizzo said: “Anyways I joined bluesky cus we’re leaving toxicity in 2024 😃.” She also shared the news on her Story and wrote, ‘#TheGreatMigration’.
Meanwhile, social media platform Bluesky gained more than one million new users since the US election. The micro-blogging site, which was started by Twitter founder Jack Dorsey in 2019, said on Wednesday that it had topped 15 million users, up from about nine million in September.

“Hello Less Hateful World,” billionaire Mark Cuban, who backed Vice President Kamala Harris, posted on Tuesday.
