For long it was speculated that Virat Kohli and Gautam Gambhir have bad blood between them. The veterans have a long history of on-field altercations. It all started in IPL 2013 when the two were involved in a heated exchange after Kohli's wicket. Almost a decade later, Kohli and Gambhir again made headlines after a massive brawl during RCB vs LSG match. The IPL 2023 fight between the Indian cricketers almost confirmed the rumours that both players don't like each other. However, neither Gambhir nor Kohli made any public comment to confirm the rift.
Kohli and Gambhir are both very passionate and a few times people lose control of their emotions on the field. Is that strong enough evidence to judge a relationship of two players? maybe not. The speculations of the alleged rift died down when Kohli and Gambhir hugged it out during IPL 2024 and later Gambhir joined team India as head coach.
'There's No Tiff': Piyush Chawla On Virat Kohli-Gautam Gambhir Relationship
Former India cricketer Piyush Chawla shed light on the Kohli-Gambhir relationship and said there was no rift between the players. He shared a stunning anecdote from the ODI World Cup 2023 which proved Gambhir took Kohli and his cricket seriously. The tournament saw the best of Kohli, who scored over 700 runs, and also surpassed legendary Sachin Tendulkar in the list of most ODI hundreds with historic 50th ton.
"I and Gauti bhai were doing a show. A question was asked 'When Virat completed his 50th century, which bowled did he take the single off? I couldn't answer it, but Gambhir did it. And he's like 'Now don't say there's any tiff. Gauti bhai is all class. He is one of the best," Chawla said on Shubhankar Mishra's YouTube channel.
When Gautam Gambhir Broke Silence On Relationship With Virat Kohli
After joining team India as head coach, Gambhir spoke about his relationship with Kohli and minced no words while slamming the fake narrative.
"Good for the TRP, but my relationship is not public. What kind of a relationship I share with Virat Kohli… I think it's between two mature individuals," Gambhir had said.
