'distributing jalebis at 8:30 am, criticising ec at 11:30 am': bjp's direct attack at congress for celebrating victory before result

With the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) consolidating its lead in the Haryana Assemly Election Results, BJP National Spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla criticised Congress for first celebrating their victory in Haryana and then questioning the Election Commission over an alleged mismatch in voter data.

In what he described as a contradictory stance, Poonawalla questioned this shift in a series of comments, saying, "At 8.30-9.00 am Pawan Khera was distributing Jalebis, around 11.30 their spokespersons started criticizing the Election Commission, by 12 noon Jairam Ramesh started to raise questions on the country's institutions and by 2pm Congress will begin to question the intelligence of the voters."

"Be it J&K or Haryana, Congress has been given the message that pehalwan, jawan, nau jawan, kisan sab karte hain Modi ka samman aur Rahul Gandhi hai nafrat ki dukaan,"he said.

Earlier in the day, the early trends showed some good news for the Congress in both Haryana and JK, Congress leader Pawan Khera expressed optimism, declaring it a moment of celebration, and confidently asserted that Congress will secure a full majority to form the government in both Haryana and Jammu Kashmir. He started distributing laddus and jalebis.

"This is just initial counting numbers, wait and watch…we are confident that we will get to eat laddus and jalebis all day today, we are going to send jalebis to Prime Minister Modi as well… We are confident that we are going to form the government with a majority in Jammu-Kashmir and Haryana."

As BJP crossed the halfway mark, Khera alleged there is a discrepancy in the vote count being reported by the Election Commission (EC) on television.

"There is a mismatch in the actual number of rounds counted and the number of rounds being shown on the television through the Election Commission data. The EC data is lagging behind; they are still showing 4th or the 5th found data while 11 rounds have been counted. Our General Secretary Communications has tweeted to the Election Commission asking – are trying to put pressure on the local administration by delaying the display and uploading of data. In J&K you are getting live data with every round counted but in Haryana, it is not so." Khera said.

Senior Congress leader Jairam Ramesh also accused the EC of trying to influence the results.

"Like the Lok Sabha elections, in Haryana we are again witnessing slowing down of uploading up-to- date trends on the ECI website. Is the BJP trying to build pressure on administration by sharing outdated and misleading trends?" he said.
