Canada's New Democratic Party (NDP) leader Jagmeet Singh, a key ally of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, received donations from Khalistani extremist Hardeep Singh Nijjar. Jagmeet Singh, who has been said to be a Khalistani sympathiser, received the donation from Nijjar in 2017.
Jagmeet Singh had previously refused to denounce the Kanishka bombing incident. The details were revealed in a social media post by investigative journalist Mocha Bezirgan earlier this year.
According to Bezirgan, Elections Canada records confirm that an individual identified as Nijjar, with the postal code V3W 0J4, made a donation to the NDP and Jagmeet Singh in 2017. A simple search on Google revealed that this postal code is linked to Nijjar Plumbing & Heating Ltd, Nijjar's plumbing business, where his son Mehtab Nijjar is reportedly employed, according to LinkedIn records.
Nijjar, a 45-year-old Canadian citizen, was tragically shot dead in June 2023, while leaving the Guru Nanak Sikh Gurdwara in Surrey, British Columbia.
The killing escalated tensions between India and Canada, especially following Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's allegations in September that Indian agents were allegedly involved in the killing of Nijjar. The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) is investigating the case.
