New Delhi: Services of the Red Line Delhi Metro, between Shahdara and Dilshad Garden have returned to normalcy a day after the operations were affected throughout August 25. On Saturday, the metro trains on the impacted line operated at a restricted speed of 25 kmph. It made the journey for passengers more time-consuming and tiring. The services were affected due to the restoration work of cables that had been attempted to be stolen.

According to the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), there was an attempt to steal cables. During which, some cables were damaged, leading to a possibility of technical snag. To cause minimum inconvenience to commuters, the metro officials decided to run trains at a slower pace the entire day, while the restoration work continued.

Earlier, Anuj Dayal, Principal Executive Director, Corporate Communications, DMRC. said, “Trains are being operated with a restricted speed of 25 kmph between the Jhilmil and Mansarovar Park stations of Red Line (both up and down). The services were imapacted from the start of services today due to a case of attempted theft on this section. The incident took during the wee hours, which led to the damage of signalling cables.”

“The work to restore the cabled is planned for Saturday night after the last passenger service ends. Access to the track will be provided to replace the cables damaged during the attempted theft. Replacement of cables is a time-consuming process that requires full access to the track without any train movement,” he added.
