london-bound vistara flight diverted to frankfurt after bomb threat, 40th incident so far

New Delhi: A London-bound Vistara flight from Delhi on Friday was diverted to Frankfurt following a bomb threat. The flight had landed safely at the Frankfurt airport and mandatory checks are being conducted, an airline spokesperson said in a statement on early Saturday. Reportedly, the flight will continue to its destination once cleared by the security agencies.

"Vistara flight UK17 operating from Delhi to London on October 18, 2024 received a security threat on social media. In line with the protocol, all relevant authorities were immediately informed and as a precautionary measure, the pilots decided to divert the flight to Frankfurt," the spokesperson said.

In the past few days, nearly 40 flights operated by the Indian carriers have received bomb threats which later turned out to be hoaxes.

Earlier, an Akasa Airline flight no. QP1335, en route from Delhi to Bengaluru with 184 passengers on board, was forced to return to Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport after a bomb threat call to both Akasa Airlines and Nagpur airport authorities. The emergency was declared around 1:15 PM, following which the aircraft was asked to return to Delhi.

"The Captain followed all required emergency procedures, diverted the flight back to Delhi and landed safely at Indira Gandhi International Airport at 13:48 hrs. According to the prescribed safety and security procedures, the aircraft was taken to an isolation bay upon landing. All passengers were deplaned at 13:57 hrs, in coordination with the local authorities who undertook the necessary safety and security checks. The Akasa Air teams are on ground and prepared to assist all passengers to ensure their safety and comfort, including providing refreshments and regular updates through the process," Akasa said in a press statement.
