Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh are all set to welcome their first child some time this month. Ahead of the big day, the duo were spotted at Siidhivinayak, as they seek blessings for its new chapter in their life. As gorgeous as the couple looked, did you know the backstory of Deepika's Banarasi saree is equally fascinating too?
For her day out with hubby Ranveer Singh and their families, Deepika Padukone picked a vibrant green silk Banarasi saree. Handcrafted by the brand Banarasi Baithak, she is wearing their Maduraidevi Vintage revival pattern katan silk Banarasi Saree.
As per the brand, the saree has been recreated by one of the best master craftspersons of Banaras using the colour and pattern of a century-old saree. The original piece, which they revealed is in tatters, has been revived in the most gorgeous of ways.
Decoding Deepika Padukone's green Banarasi saree
The saree was gifted to the parents-to-be by stylist Anaita Shroff Adajania, who sourced the vintage revival piece in accordance to green being a colour that represents fertility and auspicious growth. In a series of social media posts, the brand extended its gratitude to Anaita, who ensured the saree was untouched by scissors and remained a symbol of ‘ever after’.
Over a hundred years old, the original piece in the same rich green inspired this eventual design where the colour and pattern remain untouched. The tanchui details between the bootas were removed to make the saree slightly lighter.
Deepika accessorised the century-old vintage revival saree with a pair of emerald and diamond studs, as she walked hand-in-hand with Ranveer Singh, who was decked in a cream kurta set.
